Innovative cities and their development have become one of key issues for discussion in Russian innovation society. This topic will also be discussed at the XIIIth Tomsk Innovation Forum. Since you have developed innovation economy, what can OECD countries say on this issue?
That is true that many countries and cities, especially big ones, work on special plans and development programs. Efficiency of these development strategies will lead to increased competitive advantages of the cities, investments into innovative businesses and networks. Thus, we need to create attractive living conditions, good transportation, sufficient number of schools and universities, well-structured business areas where the companies are located.
Urban development implies close cooperation of local authorities, capable of building the entire city image and understanding the conditions necessary to support small innovation business.
Quality of life has become a very important competitive feature for countries leading in innovation development. An innovative city should be attractive for young talented people, and authorities have to consider this issue while realizing projects of innovative city development. It is very important for Tomsk not to attract people only to study and work here, but to provide bigger opportunities to keep young ambitious talented people in the city.
